Seattle rock veterans Sweet Water have returned with Shine On, their seventh studio album and first full-length release in more than a decade. Out now on Golden City Records, the album captures the band - frontman Adam Czeisler, guitarist Rich Credo, bassist Cole Peterson, and drummer Chris Friel - at a new creative peak, blending decades of friendship with a fearless approach to songwriting and production.

Sweet Water built the album on a foundation of legendary microphones, preamps, and compressors, balancing vintage icons with modern essentials to achieve both warmth and clarity.

Vocals and instruments were tracked through coveted classics like the Sony C800G, Telefunken U-47, Neumann U67 Set and Neumann U87, alongside versatile workhorses such as the Shure SM 7 B, Aston Origin, and Audio Technica AT4060.

The result: vocals and guitars that feel immediate, yet timeless.

Those signals ran through equally enviable front-end choices: Neve 1066 and 1073 preamps, API Audio 312 console pres, and vintage Siemens V72s, giving each track the analog depth engineers dream of. On dynamics, the band leaned on studio standards, including a Distressor pair, Tube-Tech Cl 1B, and a UREI 1176-D, shaping performances with punch and musicality. The sessions were captured in Avid Pro Tools Ultimate via Apogee Symphony I/O and an Avid HDX system, ensuring the flexibility of digital while retaining the character of analog.

The payoff can be heard across the record, from the reflective textures of State of Grace to the expansive closer Lush Trees. The band even recorded string arrangements in Adam’s home studio, proof that great sound isn't only about big studios but also about choosing the right tools and using them with intent

For longtime fans, Shine On is also a continuation of Sweet Water’s journey that began in Seattle's early-'90s rock scene, which gave us their major-label debut (Sweet Water, 1993) and follow-up Superfriends (1995). Now, more than thirty years in, the band's friendship and commitment to craft remain the driving force.

As Adam explains: "We wanted to be way more ambitious, take way more risks to try and stretch the songs beyond what we had done before, because ‘why not? If not now, then when?"

With Shine On, Sweet Water prove that great rock records aren’t just about passion and chemistry but also about the gear that brings those performances to life.
