The Metal Inferno - Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Progressive Metal
As the year draws to a close and the nights grow longer, there’s no better time to uncover new metal that burns bright against the winter chill. Once again, I'm diving into three pillars of the genre: Heavy Metal, delivering raw power and uncompromising riffs; Progressive Metal, pushing boundaries with complex rhythms and fearless experimentation and Power Metal, soaring in with epic melodies, heroic themes, and larger-than-life energy.
December’s releases are fierce, ambitious, and overflowing with passion.
Irreversible Mechanism - Nocturnal Light
Taken from the album Graviant, this mid-tempo Progressive Metal song has electrifying guitar riffs and vocals that are aggressive and melodic. The complex time changes are synonymous with progressive metal. The drummer lays down heavy grooves that really move the song forward.

Lomor - Tantine Lo Clou
This song wastes no time in setting up its tone. The guitar riff is in the style of Iron Maiden, played with laser-like precision. The drummer is incredible, playing breakneck tempo double bass patterns.
This song is quite short for metal, coming in just under 4 minutes. It is a great tune full of aggression and power. It is impressive because it is such a full sound coming from a power trio.

Genofagia - Stigma
Taken from the album Cyberpunk, Stigma is a mix of power and progressive metal. That being said, it also includes more obscure musical influences. The guitar sounds heavy due to a mix of distortion and reverb. The bass guitar is also quite prominent in the mix.
What is impressive about this song is the number of changes. Going from heavy/funky riffs that use the whammy bar to implied shuffle beats. Very impressive musicianship.

Jester Majesty - Human vs. Machine
The great thing about metal is that there are no time constraints on the music. Taken from Infinite Measure, Finite Existence, Human vs. Machine goes over 7 minutes.
The opening riff is in half time while the drummer plays double time, which creates an interesting push-pull effect. The band takes its time to build the track, which gives the musicians a chance to demonstrate their incredible musicianship.

Chaos Over Cosmos - When the Void Laughs
Taken from The Hypercosmic Paradox - When the Void Laughs mixes metal and elements of thrash. The guitarist is incredible, shredding licks way past 140 bpm. The drummer also deserves an honourable mention for playing superfast double bass patterns that are intricate and complex. It is a sign of truly great musicians playing a piece of music that is over 9 minutes long. Being able to remember that many changes in form is incredibly hard to do.

Dragon Throne - Dragon Empire
Taken from Tale of The Two: Dawn - This song is interesting for a few reasons. It has multiple changes in dynamics, which shows the musicians have really studied their craft. It takes incredible skill to not only pay these complicated arrangements but also remember the form of the song.
It has cinematic elements with big crescendos during the bridge. The outro changes gears, bringing the volume down, giving the vocalist a chance to really show his chops.

Midnight Fortress - Angels Kiss
Taken from the band's latest self-titled album, Angels Kiss is over 5 minutes long and is really classic Heavy Metal. The intro builds slowly to allow the verse and chorus to build up. The guitarist has an amazing amount of chops playing a lightning-fast lead break during the bridge. The bass player stays in the low end to give the song the bottom end it needs. The vocalist has an impressive range in both the higher and lower octaves.

Symphonity - Out And About
I really feel the emotion comes through the song with the singer's vocals. His range is impressive, but also his ability to emote. The guitarist goes through a multitude of effects like distortions, flanges, and reverbs. The drummer is using dark crash cymbals, which are explosive for accents but don’t last long enough to get in the way of the music. A great power metal track taken from the band's latest album, Beyond Olympus.

Old Night - Homebound
Taken from Mediterranean Melancholy, Homebound has detuned guitars for extra grunt and low end. Although this sound was made popular in the early 2000s nu metal movement, it has been a staple in metal since. This register really allows the singer to explore multiple octaves without having to strain in higher registers. The vocal harmonies are also very impressive.

Netherdred - The Hateful Undead
Taken from Lords of Mayhem, The Hateful Undead has several influences. It is mainly a mash up if heavy metal and power metal. The production is slick without sounding overproduced. The tempo is slow, but that doesn’t change its heaviness. The lyrics are both emotional and heartfelt. A great contrast with the heavy guitars.
