This edition features; a song that sounds like it plays on a bleak, hopeless night in NYC, in an abandoned Gothic church in the midst of the Satanic Panic; a luxurious electronic hyperpop song that shimmers with longing and melancholy; an electronic soundscape that blends the darkest depths of electronic textures with shimmering ethereal sounds; a song that sounds like a walk through a surreal, mysterious garden; a song that has some pink 00s pop electronic vibes; a song that sounds like it is from a science fiction b movie; a song that sounds like a candlelight memory from a piano bar and more!

Modern Church - Public Circuit

I may have said this before, but if NYC band Public Circuit had been around in the 1980s/early 1990s, they would have been targets of the infamous satanic panic spectacle/moral panic (if you are unfamiliar with the sheer degree of ridiculousness and paranoia of that era, please see this truly insane video from 1994 entitled LAW ENFORCEMENT GUIDE TO SATANIC CULTS (1994) FULL TRAINING VIDEO).
Their new album Modern Church opens with a song of the same name, a furious blend of punk and deliciously dark electronic; however, this is not like the bright, peppy 1980s synth homages, that rely heavily on fluffy nostalgia, (a style that has had a resurgence over the last decade) - Modern Church is instead, razor sharp, with an opaque, deep sense of anger and hopelessness thrumming underneath it, like a tar pit under a vast industrial chemical plant. I can imagine this being performed on a bleak, hopeless night in NYC in 1980, in an abandoned Gothic church - Modern Church is a cathartic work of art.
On the album, singer Ethan Biamont says, "’Modern Church’ represents the collapse of connection—the album's chants are hollow, stripped back, and full of seething energy. As we departed from the sound of our last album, we don’t see change as an enemy, but as a tool — a structure that can be repurposed, re-tuned into a tightly wound and potent new form.”

The opening of this is like a luxurious, 2010s electronic music dream; the cloud-like pads and synths remind me of those in the opening song of sketch comedy show Portlandia (possibly one of my favourite opening themes for any show, ever).
With some hyperpop elements present, mostly in the vocals, this has a deep sense of melancholy and longing throughout. This is the first song to be released from their upcoming debut EP, Daisy, which is set to be released on November 7th.
Leilani is releasing music via Bandcamp and is not relying on streaming, you can support them directly here.

Cowgirl Clue - Left Unsaid
The newest release from producer/artist extraordinaire Cowgirl Clue, ahead of the release of her new album Total Freedom, to be released on September 25th.
I became a lifetime fan when I heard Hometown Hero for the first time. Left Unsaid is a blend of alluring DIY pop with pink 00s vibes, with a sprinkling of Americana, the results being mesmerizing and luxurious.

CHELSEA PIERS VAR. XVIII- Frog

Taken from the album THE COUNT. A blast of upbeat, slightly discordant piano chords hit you; chords that will induce the warm sense of happiness associated with a memory.
This sounds like it is being played on the piano, in the corner of a candle-lit late-night pub, located down a flight of stars, in the basement of a building, the memory drenched in a pleasant orange glow.

I love this. This opens like a science fiction B-movie from the 1970s, complete with kitsch sound fx (my favourite). A throbbing industrial arpeggiated baseline enters with crystalline synths, the vocals possessing an almost otherworldly quality to them.
Allow yourself to enter this shadowy, mysterious electronic world.

Without Willow - Love You Last

A gentle new song from Irish singer-songwriters Without Willow (Karen Kelly & Simon McCafferty).
Love You Last is about the everyday things that mean the most, that collectively make life special, the feeling of having someone who truly understands you, sees you, and together you have a sense of safety, of warmth, shielded from the elements outside. My favorite lyrics in this are ‘I’ll be there in the evening/ Like a sunset in the West’ and the chorus ‘there is no need for second guessing/you don't even have to ask/ cause for us there is no question/ I loved you first I’ll love you last’.

Ani Glass - Acwariwm

This has the dreamiest, most luxurious chorus, ever - like the feeling of submerging yourself in the aquamarine pool seen in the photo above, and featured throughout the music video. This is a blend of an alt 90s style bassline with creamy pads and vocals, all fusing together to create a slightly surreal sonic world that you will want to dive right into.
On the song, the artist says it is about “reconnecting with the world around you and reminding yourself to keep looking for hope in every corner, even when things seem dark.”

Electric Litany - Reciprocate

This shimmers with a mystique that is difficult to put your finger on exactly; it feels like a surreal, mystical garden. The vocals kind of remind me of Empire of the Sun (specifically the dreamy chorus vocals in Walking on a Dream). This is a luxurious, sonic world to lose yourself in.

PARIS MUSIC CORP, RayPerez - No Soy A.I.!

This is an all-consuming, eerie electronic soundscape that possesses a deep, synthetic darkness, with some ethereal shimmering textures at the edges, making it all the more bewitching (it kind of reminds me of Vangelis). The vocals of musician/actor/writer RayPerez makes this all the more hypnotic.
On the song John Andrew Paris (PARIS MUSIC CORP) says, “I wanted to address the coldness of some of AI’s tendencies, such as people already having AI girlfriends and boyfriends. Ironically, this track ultimately turned out to be a love song of sorts, which is okay by me. Sonically, this piece has a very futuristic sound to it. The words delivered in Spanish alongside make it even more relevant as something new and a little out there”.
