"No AI could ever replicate a Chuck Berry double-stop lick" - An Interview With Action Rock Band Supersonic Deuces

Supersonic Deuces, the high-energy Action Rock quartet from Rome, Italy, are dropping their debut album, Deuce On The Loose, today. Fueled by loud guitars, relentless energy, and a love for classic rock ‘n’ roll, the band takes inspiration from legends like The Stooges, Dead Boys, and Turbonegro while putting their own spin on the genre.
We caught up with Andy Angelini, guitarist, and co-founder of Supersonic Deuces, to discuss their creative process, the gear that shapes their sound, their thoughts on AI-generated music, dream collaborations, and more!
Eugenia Roditis, Musicngear: Your debut album, Deuce On The Loose, is a blend of punk, rock, and Swedish influences. What was your mission when crafting this record, and how did you know you nailed it?
Hi everyone, Andy from Supersonic Deuces here. Thanks so much for your interest in our music!
The album came together song by song—we spent countless hours in the rehearsal room refining the tracks, recording pre-production demos, and carefully translating the sound we had in our heads into reality.
Our goal was to create a raw, guitar-driven sound with intense drum parts, minimal post-production, and absolutely no drum samples. That’s the kind of rock ’n’ roll we grew up with, and it’s what we love. Sure, rock ’n’ roll can be cliché nowadays, but we aimed to inject our own personality into it.
If you listen to bands like Dead Boys, The Stooges, Radio Birdman, Turbonegro, or Backyard Babies, you’ll notice they share a common root, yet each has a distinctive sound. We wanted Deuce On The Loose to reflect that same individuality within the raw energy of rock ’n’ roll.
Musicngear: Supersonic Deuces bring together extreme metal, sleazy rock, and punk influences from your past projects. How did those experiences shape the band’s Action Rock sound?
Honestly, you won’t hear much of those influences in Supersonic Deuces’ music at all—haha! That said, each of us has a very open-minded approach to music, and we’ve all explored different styles over the years.
Those experiences certainly shape how we arrange and produce our songs today, but at its core, Supersonic Deuces is all about grit, energy, and raw rock ’n’ roll.
Musicngear: What’s the gear setup for each of you? How does it all come together to create your signature sound on stage and in the studio?
From day one, we aimed for a full, fuzzy, and raw sound that hits you right in the face. Our approach has always been to make the final result as gritty and personal as possible while ensuring that each instrument has its own space in the mix. We wanted to avoid the overly polished, radio-friendly rock sound and instead stay true to a more authentic vibe.
We use classic rock gear—Gibson guitars, Fender basses, and Marshall amps. In the studio, we stayed true to our live sound, capturing the same raw energy that defines our performances.
Focus on quality over quantity—let the songs evolve, and don’t hesitate to revise or start over if something doesn’t feel right
Musicngear: What was the biggest challenge you faced while working on Deuce On The Loose, and what advice would you give to new bands navigating similar struggles?
The process actually unfolded quite naturally because we didn’t rush it. We wrote and rehearsed four songs, scrapped two, and then took the best ones to fully pre-produce. We repeated this process for another batch of songs before re-recording everything together with four new tracks to complete the full-length album.
For new bands, I’d recommend being patient and not forcing the creative process. Focus on quality over quantity—let the songs evolve, and don’t hesitate to revise or start over if something doesn’t feel right.
Musicngear: With members having played gigs worldwide, how has that international experience influenced the way you approach promoting your music?
We’ve always embraced a DIY approach, especially Dave (our singer) and I. From the start, we understood the importance of networking. With our style of music, you can’t just release tracks and rely on paid promotion—you need to stick to the old-school rock way of building a fanbase, one step at a time.
We also like to maintain control over every aspect of how we promote ourselves, from press materials to videos and photo shoots. It’s all about staying authentic and connecting directly with fans.
No AI could ever replicate a Chuck Berry double-stop lick
Musicngear: If you could collaborate with any artist or band, who would it be, and why?
For me personally, it would have to be Iggy Pop—he’s one of my all-time heroes. Fun fact: he even makes a cheeky appearance in our “Bored & Stroked” video—or does he?!
Musicngear: What’s your take on AI-generated music? Do you see it as a threat, a tool, or something completely different?
I’m not too keen on the idea of AI interfering with human creativity. In my opinion, there’s no way it can truly compete. Especially in our kind of music, human imperfection, and personality are far more important than flawless execution.
No AI could ever replicate a Chuck Berry double-stop lick—haha!
Musicngear: If you had an unlimited budget for gear, what’s the one piece of equipment each of you would add to your arsenal?
Without a doubt, I’d go for a Burst—a 1959 Gibson Les Paul. It’s the holy grail of guitars.
Musicngear: If Supersonic Deuces were a weapon in an action movie, what would it be, and who would wield it?
Haha, that’s an unusual question! I’d say we’d be an armored machine gun car in a Mad Max movie—perfectly chaotic and unstoppable.
