Our opinion about SAS-75 Alto Saxophone

by Musicngear Lead Editor
If you are just getting started with playing the saxophone, then this model can be a great choice. It’s quite small and lightweight (but definitely not a toy), and it sounds really nice, being well tuned. It also looks good and comes at an affordable price, so don’t hesitate to choose it. Most buyers were very pleased with the Startone SAS-75 Alto Saxophone, giving it an overall rating of 4.2 out of 5.
10 Reasons to Buy
  • It delivers a genuine saxophone tone for an affordable price
  • It has the right intonation and a smooth, clear and warm sound
  • It makes a great choice for beginners
  • The mouthpiece and case are included in the price
  • Its responsiveness is fast and easy with a suitable reed and mouthpiece
  • Beginners can get the first true tones out of it after just a few lessons and experiments
  • It’s actually a real instrument, not just a toy
  • The body and keys have a lacquered brass finish and the thumb rest can be adjusted
  • The carrying case is very comfortable and can easily fit both the sax and lots of accessories
  • It can be used for a wide variety of musical genres: Classical, Jazz, R&B, Dance Music and so on
5 Reasons to Avoid Buying
  • The materials are not of the highest quality, but you can’t even expect that for this price
  • The included mouthpiece is ok, but you can get much better results with a higher quality mouthpiece that you can buy separately
  • The included nozzle and reeds are not so good, but can easily be replaced with higher quality ones
  • The strap is not that comfortable when wearing it around the neck
  • Some users recommend to spend some extra money and get a higher quality sax right from the beginning, instead of getting this one and then investing money into accessories and various fixes

It is responding normally and the tone especially the low tones sound great. I believe wit the right mouthpiece, it will sound even greater.

"Well, I just purchased a Startone SAS-..."

    5

Well, I just purchased a Startone SAS-75 alto saxophone. I've been playing Buffet Crampon for some time, and I wanted to see how a cheap saxophone really works compared to a known brand. The conclusion is that the Startone is a great instrument. Really good price / quality. With a good reed (Vandoren for example) it works well even with the stock mouthpiece. Nothing wrong with it. Mechanically speaking, the Startone is OK, you may need to lube the moving parts after you buy it, but it's a great instrument. It's not flimsy or badly made at all.
One more thing: please never forget that 95% of the sound comes down to the player itself, about 4% from the mouthpiece & reed combination and about 1% from the horn. So if you know how to play, even the Startone works really well.

Love this. It is far better than renting the sax from the instructor and buying old or used one. I highly recommend this!

Review of Yanagisawa A-WO2 Alto Saxophone Excellent build, sound, I to stink and ergonomics. It has a lively sound, not too dark, not too bright. It is responsive and a joy to play. I loved the AWO20 as well, but it was not significantly different, in my hands, to justify the price difference and the AWO2 seemed a little more “lively” and responsive.
